As the owner of a small business, Top Shelf Services’s John Stahfest knows the value of giving back to his community. Of course, John would love to do more volunteer work, but because he is a one-man-operation, his time is limited. Yet, he still manages to find ways to help the Washington community however he can.
Some of the ways John has been able to give back to his community include:
- Hanging handrails on the walls in the bedrooms and bathrooms of disabled veterans
- Volunteering in the Green River Cleanup
- Volunteering on additional trail clean-ups, including a cleanup of the FS70
Green River Cleanup
The Green River Cleanup began when volunteers came up with the idea to remove trash from Washington’s riverbanks. The first cleanup resulted in the removal of over 100 tons of garbage, including cars, chemicals, and appliances, along 130 miles of riverbanks stretching from the Headworks in Tacoma to Elliot Bay.
Being an appliance guy himself, John was all too happy to remove appliances that people had otherwise carelessly discarded. If you would like to get involved and join John the next time he volunteers, check out the website for the Green River Cleanup for more info.
Helping Veterans
One of the ways in which John is proud to give back to his community is by helping disabled veterans. John’s work is similar to the ways in which Habitat for Humanity also helps out veterans. Habitat for Humanity offers a service called the Repair Corps., which not only helps with appliance repairs but also installs fixtures for disabled veterans, like wheelchair ramps to make getting around the house a bit easier.
Basically, Habitat for Humanity performs what they call “critical home repairs,” which are repairs performed both inside and outside the home to relieve issues pertaining to the veteran’s health and safety, as well as his or her overall quality of life.
Support Your Community, Choose Top Shelf Services
At Top Shelf Services Repair, we care about the Washington community and try to give back whenever possible. We are grateful for the service our veterans gave to this country, and we enjoy showing our support by assisting them with the repairs and installations that can improve their quality of life.
We also enjoy being able to clean up the Washington area, one riverbank at a time. At Top Shelf, we’re always on the go. But when we do have some downtime, we enjoy giving back to the community that has given us so much.
